Great insight into BFRBs

For someone struggling with a Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior, Raffaela’s approach is different from anything I’ve seen before. I suspect her insight could help with any addiction, as well as improve your life even if you are not struggling with a body-focused repetitive behavior.

You are changing my life!

I am just so floored with gratitude in discovering this podcast. Thank you so much Raffaela.
I have been struggling with skin picking for the past 16 years, which has progressively started to worsen and widen into other body focused behaviors. I am exhausted by how much mental and emotional capacity is has taken. Exhausted by the shame cycles and exhausted by feeling captive to this behavior.
I have read book after book, searched for support, tried all the methods, the replacement behaviors, tracking the BFRB’s throughout the day, etc., but always find myself in relapse.

I have only just listened to the first episode but it has given me a ground breaking and transformative light bulb moment. I can feel the mountains moving! This understanding of skin picking through the lens of childhood and seeing it as a behavioral addiction has laid out a new path of understanding for what I need to do to heal. It is a lifestyle change. Seeking out nurturing activities, doing the deep work to address my self sabotaging inner critic, continuing through IFS therapy (which I just want to give a major nod to the powerful and transformative work that can happen in this specific type of therapy), continuing on the path of self awareness in addressing, communicating, feeling and expressing when I am enduring those deeply uncomfortable emotions and strengthening resilience towards big uncomfortable feelings…and lastly continuing to find ways to access emotional regulation.
I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome earlier this year and have thankfully found healing and recovery through neural reprocessing and brain rewiring/ brain training exercises. The symptoms had become debilitating and I found a path to recovery by addressing the root from the stance of healing a dysregulated nervous system. Similarly, I can see how much my skin picking is tangled up inside this disconnection and emotional dysregulation which is also very much tied into me having a severely dysregulated nervous system.
All the puzzle pieces are clicking. Thank you for this new hope and for all the clarity you have given me. I have found hope that I have not felt for so many years.
We can do hard things! Extending my hope to everyone out there on their journey to healing from BFRB’s! I look forward to continuing through all the other podcasts you’ve created. You are an angel!

The Mind-Body Connection

Raffaela has come to a similar solution for BFRBs that Dr. John Sarno used in “Healing Back Pain”. He believed chronic pain was the result of repressed emotions.

Since your typical psychologist, psychiatrist, and dermatologist have no idea what to do about this, Raffaela’s approach seems like a positive next step.
