  • Oprah Winfrey: How to Find Your Unique Purpose, Authentic Power, and Calling In Life

    17 Sept

Oprah Winfrey: How to Find Your Unique Purpose, Authentic Power, and Calling In Life

This episode is a master class on how to live an incredible life. In one of the most powerful conversations ever recorded on The Mel Robbins Podcast, Mel sits down with someone she has looked up to for more than four decades: Oprah Winfrey. Mel first started watching Oprah on local television, before The Oprah Winfrey Show was nationally syndicated. Through every chapter of her own life, Mel has returned to Oprah’s work for perspective, encouragement, and direction. This is more than an interview for Mel. It is deeply personal. Now you get to hear the questions she has wanted to ask Oprah for years. Oprah starts this episode by saying, “I want everybody to know that you have the power to fulfill the fullest expression of yourself as a human being.” She is teaching you how to do that today.  Oprah shares what she learned, growing up feeling unloved and “red dirt road poor” in Mississippi to extraordinary success. She discusses painful mistakes, difficult family relationships, and moments when she ignored her own intuition and paid the price.  What she reveals is surprisingly simple: You already have an internal GPS. Oprah will teach you how to hear it, and find the courage to follow it.  In this episode, you’ll learn: -How to recognize the thread of purpose that has been running through your life all along -Why intention changes the way you experience your work, relationships, and choices -The single question Oprah asks when something in her life is not working -Oprah’s best advice: “You are allowed to change your mind,” and what happened when she ignored it -What to do when something painful or unfair happens and you have to figure out how to move forward -Oprah’s life-changing definition of forgiveness -The “10-gallon versus pint-size” lesson that helped her heal her relationship with her mother -The single spiritual practice Oprah comes back to again and again If Oprah Winfrey could sit beside you and help you think through the biggest questions in your life, this is the conversation she would want you to hear. This conversation will help you come back to your center and look at your own life differently. Start paying attention to the life that has been speaking to you all along.  There is something in this episode for wherever you are in your life right now.  This is a must-listen episode. How would you feel about going up to a stranger on the street and asking them for a cheeky favour? If the idea makes you nervous, then don't worry – you are not alone! But recently, some people have been filming themselves doing this, as part of a social media trend called 'rejection therapy'. The Ultimate Guide to Divorce (For You & The People You Love)

You wouldn't believe the amount of times Mel has asked to do an episode on divorce And finally….here it is: The ULTIMATE guide on how to handle divorce - for you and the people you love. Whether you’ve been through a divorce, are thinking about one, are going through one now, have a loved one you need to support, or are the child of divorced parents, this episode is a resource. World renowned divorce lawyer James Sexton is back to break down divorce from every imaginable angle, and give takeaways that you can implement today regardless of where you are in what he calls divorce’s “six stages”. James will tell you the five situations where he believes divorce may be necessary, how to tell your spouse the marriage is over, and the 48 hour plan you should have in place before you do. You’ll also learn how to protect yourself financially, how to choose the right attorney, and how to stop the need for “revenge” from costing you money. James also addresses “staying together for the kids,” explains how a divorce ends a marriage and not a family, and why your decision on whether to have a divorce or not affects your kids even more than you know. You’ll learn: -The 6 stages of divorce and what to do during each one -Who you should — and should not — talk to when you’re considering divorce -What financial documents and information you need to protect yourself -The biggest mistake people make once they’re in the middle of a divorce -Why trying to “win” your divorce can destroy your future -How to set goals for your post-divorce life before emotions take over -Why you should get a therapist before you get a dating app -How to rebuild your identity and your life after divorce -The best way to support someone you love who is going through a divorce James says “The grief isn't evidence that the marriage failed, it means it mattered.”  If you are dealing with divorce yourself, this episode will help you understand where you are and what may be next.  If someone you love is going through a divorce, you will learn how to show up in a way that is meaningful. Either way, the more informed you are, the better you can navigate it. AI and trade: Will US and China agree?

US President Donald Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping will meet in a summit at the White House this week for the first time since 2023, following on from a President Trump’s visit to China earlier this year in which a truce was agreed. Before the truce was agreed, both the US and China had imposed high tarrifs on products coming in from the other country. The truce will end in November and many experts say that the two countries will try to extend their truce and make more agreements on trade. Alongside trade tariffs, there are other potential disagreements between the two leaders. For example over AI and the war in Iran. There are talks about a warning system for AI that Trump plans to share with Xi. Let Them: How to Handle Difficult People & Take Back Your Peace and Power

Today, Mel is digging into The Let Them Theory in a brand-new way – and answering the #1 question she’s been asked since the book became an international sensation with 10+ million copies sold:  How do you use The Let Them Theory with the people you love who also frustrate you, worry you, disappoint you, or are just plain difficult? It’s one thing to say “Let Them” when someone cuts you off in traffic or an annoying stranger gets under your skin at the store. But what do you do when it’s someone you care about – your parent, your partner, your child, or your closest friend?   There has to be an easier way. Today, Mel will show you that easier way by helping you see where your power really is. Mel is walking you through a relationship-changing 3-part framework she’s never taught on the podcast before, one that will help you stop wasting your energy trying to control what you can’t so you can protect your peace and finally take back control of what you can. Using real questions from listeners, Mel will show you exactly what to do when someone you love won’t take care of themselves, seems unmotivated, judges you, controls the mood in every room, or just keeps disappointing you. You’ll learn:    -The 3 mistakes that are making your relationships stressful and frustrating  -How to stop someone’s behavior from controlling your mood   -What to do when you want someone to change more than they want it for themselves    -How judging, pressuring, and trying to motivate someone can make things worse  -The dangerous trap of thinking “they should know better” and the question to ask instead  -How to love someone who is hard to love without losing yourself in the process  By the end of this conversation, you’ll know exactly how to handle your most difficult relationships – with less stress, more confidence, and a clear path forward. People only change when they’re ready to change. But you don’t have to wait for that to happen to make your own life a lot easier. Gita Gopinath on Trade, Currencies, and Economic Transformation

Gita Gopinath has spent the last several years inside the room where the world's monetary plumbing gets fixed — or doesn't. As first deputy managing director of the IMF and, before that, the Fund's chief economist, she worked on sovereign debt restructuring, followed Argentina's disinflation up close, and built her academic reputation on ideas like dollar dominance and the dominant currency paradigm. Now back at Harvard launching a new Global Economics Lab, her conversation with Tyler ranges from why exchange rates don't adjust the way models predict, to what stablecoins really cost, to whether AI's growth dividend will show up on schedule. Tyler and Gita discuss why trade balances are only weakly related to real exchange rates, before turning to Argentina, Milei's fiscal discipline, the peso, and dollarization. Then they discuss whether economists got the euro wrong; whether trade imbalances with China are really the problem; stablecoins, CBDCs, and the Treasury market; and whether AI will ease the debt burden, cause stagflation, or transform economics itself. Finally, they turn to her family's Kerala roots: why the state keeps electing communists, the relationship between matriarchy and social indicators, single-sex education, and what she's building next. • Raising Conscious Humans: Raising the Child You Have, Not the Child You Want

    15 Sept

Raising Conscious Humans: Raising the Child You Have, Not the Child You Want

Hwee Keng said: “There is a personality in that small human being... you don’t know the settings. First, I think you need to find out the settings.” As parents, we spend so much energy shaping who we hope our children will become, and perhaps not enough time discovering who they already are. What struck me about Hwee Keng is how much of her parenting has been about unlearning her own expectations. She even caught herself once after feeling disappointed that Max didn’t win a competition, and realised some of that disappointment was about her own ego. That hit me. Because maybe the work is not raising the child we imagined, but learning to really see the child in front of us. In this episode, we talk about curiosity over performance, giving children real agency, the difference between “you’ve got this” and “we’ve got you,” responsibility, consequences, and what it means to raise children who are truly fit for life. Testing My Friends on English Grammar / Irregular Verbs with Amber & Paul 🎯 [1003]

Following a challenge from the comment section, I decided to see if it was possible to make an entire episode with my friends Amber and Paul based on the table of irregular verbs. This is the result. I decided to test the POD-PALS on their grammatical knowledge, and to see what anecdotes and funny comments I could get from them. The result is both a classic Amber & Paul episode, and quite a revealing demonstration of how English native speakers process grammar in their first language.
